Objective

Assess the performance of Creusabro^® Dual as an alternative to standard 400 HBW water-quenched steel in a high-throughput granite crushing operation, with the aim of increasing wear life and reducing downtime in a severe impact and abrasion environment.

Test Conditions

• Location: Granite quarry in Marmagne (France, département 71)

• Environment: Extreme wear conditions due to the crushing of abrasive granite blocks ranging from 0 to 800 mm, at a processing rate of 320 tonnes per hour.

• Function: Wear plates within the stone crusher, subject to both intense abrasion and repeated impact.

• Original material: 400 HBW water-quenched steel, 30 mm thickness

• Replacement material: Creusabro® Dual, 30 mm thickness, processed by plasma cutting, drilling, and countersinking.

Results

• The Creusabro® Dual plates achieved 580 hours of service life, compared to 324 hours for the 400 HBW steel — representing an 80% increase in wear life.

• The components were fabricated and mounted using the same processes, ensuring compatibility with existing equipment and no need for design modifications.
