Objective
Evaluate the performance of Creusabro® 4800 as a replacement for conventional 400 HBW steel in the feed chute of a primary crusher, with the goal of increasing wear life, ensuring better uptime, and maintaining flow efficiency at 1,000 tonnes per hour.
Test Conditions
- Location: Limestone quarry site in Lixhe, Belgium 
- Environment: Continuous high-volume material flow (1,000 T/h) in a primary crushing circuit. The chute is exposed to heavy sliding abrasion from raw stone material, including fines and sharp-edged blocks. 
- Function: Feed chute lining in the crusher’s input zone, where it protects against erosion and abrasive wear from falling and sliding material. 
- Original material: 400 HBW water-quenched steel 
- Replacement material: Creusabro® 4800, processed by plasma cutting and drilling 
Results
- The original 400 HBW liners reached a service life of 14 months before requiring replacement. 
- The Creusabro® 4800 liners extended service life to 21 months, representing a +51% improvement. 
- The liners were installed using the same fabrication process, with no design changes required.
